It is used as a refrigerant either by itself or more commonly as a component of blended mixtures. Unlike CFCs used as refrigerants, trifluoroethane has no chlorine atoms and is therefore not an ozone-depleting chemical, though its high chemical stability and infra-red absorbency make it a potent green-house gas with a global warming potential of 4300, higher than many other commonly used HFC refrigerants.

- The NET3 Cyber Head (ATEX/IECEx certified) has been developed for use as a component of a fixed gas detection system or as a full conformity field device. It can accommodates a Cyber transmitter module with 4-20 mA and digital (RS485 Modbus) outputs. The electronics are connected to an infrared, pellistor or electrochemical gas sensor.
